Statement on DC Shooting

Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans (JFGNO) is horrified at the reported murder of two Israeli Embassy staff members, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC.

Our hearts go out to the victims and to our colleagues at AJC (American Jewish Committee), whose event was being held at the museum.

Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) is working closely with its security partners to monitor the situation, gain a fuller picture of what transpired, and keep our communities informed.

The safety and security of the community is our top priority and JFNA will not rest until that safety is fully restored.

Locally, the JFGNO security director is coordinating with the New Orleans Homeland Security office, the FBI, and all local and state law enforcement agencies regarding any emerging threats or incidents. There are no direct threats to the region or state. Law enforcement is being very helpful and responsive with assistance where needed.

Our existing security protocols remain vigilant, as we are constantly reviewing and updating. All community partners are encouraged to reach out to James Stewart (james@jewishnola.org), Community Security Director, if they’d like to discuss or review security plans for any upcoming programs or events.

Please be mindful of surroundings. Report any suspicious activity to the police. Stay alert, stay safe.
