Jews of the Raj: Dispatches from the 2025 India Mission

Follow along with photos, insights, and more from the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans mission trip to India, taking place Jan 23 to Feb 4.

The Gateway of India

Our India Mission began in Mumbai, India’s vibrant Economic Capital City. With over 16 million residents, Mumbai is a sprawling metropolis with a small but thriving Jewish community.

Our travelers began to arrive in the country last night–though Louisiana’s historic snowstorm threw a wrench in their plans. Their first major stop: the “Gateway of India,” a massive arch monument on Mumbai’s waterfront. Completed in 1924, the Gateway of India (pictured above) is one of the must-see tourist attractions of Mumbai.
