Emergency Leadership Mission: United for Security

OUR SAFETY IS NOT OPTIONAL. OUR SECURITY IS NOT NEGOTIABLE.

Federation joined more than 100 Jewish communities—representing 50 major organizations— in Washington, D.C. this week with one urgent message: Jewish security cannot wait.

Like the threat Iran poses in the Middle East and around the world, domestic terror in the United States is on the rise with Jewish Americans as the target. Our communities are under attack.

We are grateful to President Trump for his bold leadership in confronting the threat from Iran. This week we asked for that same bold, decisive commitment to secure the safety of Jewish Americans across the United States.

The Jewish community is investing in its own security, but government must take the lead. We presented a Six-Point Security Policy Plan, outlining essential, life-saving measures that would protect all Americans in their places of worship and communal gathering.  It is urgent that we work together – Jewish community leaders do government leaders – to take significant new steps to fight domestic terror.

Our safety is not optional. Our security is not negotiable.

Can we count on you to meet with representatives from your Jewish community?

We are calling for:

  • A $1 billion increase to the Nonprofit Security Grant Program
  • Federal support to offset soaring protection costs for Jewish schools, camps, and events
  • Enhanced funding for the FBI and Homeland Security to combat the domestic and global terror threat targeting Jewish communities
  • Federal assistance to local law enforcement to strengthen patrols and response capabilities
  • Regulation and accountability for incitement and hate speech on social media platforms
  • Aggressive enforcement and prosecution of hate crimes

This is not business as usual: This is crisis mode.

Additionally, thanks to the Jewish Endowment Foundation and Jewish Federations of North America’s Tepper Grant, Federation has awarded over $200,000 to early education agencies for security over the past two years.

Last week Federation’s Community Security Director, Jimmy Stewart, held a security briefing with local and state law enforcement and is available for additional security trainings.
